Joyceste is a character I completely redesigned/transferred into a different setting at one point. Below I've put his original character description, which is how I played the character in a DnD campaign somewhere in 2020 or so. Then later on, around 2022, I made a second version of Joyceste which doesn't share much with that original incarnation. This second version, an AU so to speak, has Joyceste as an engineering prodigy that pilots large Scifi mechs for Kengnatz (a corporation). For more info on this second version of Joyceste, refer to the writing post "Joyce Scifi Redesign Profile" in the Writing section. Also note that the artwork tag "Joyceste" refers to both versions of the character interchangeably.

From his appearance and the way he talks, Joyceste Milliband comes across as the perfect student, the archetypical wizard apprentice (including the pointy hat). Not only is he incredibly smart and a quick study, he is also outgoing, cheerful, optimistic, and full of problem-solving energy that he can't wait to put to work on any kind of trouble that presents itself. Beneath the facade, however, Joyce hides a dark secret. During his first year as a student of the magical arts, some "friends" talked him into participating in a highly forbidden ritual of dark magic. At night, deep in the cellars of the academy, they summoned a powerful fiend named Orifax. When Orifax fought back, the ritual got out of control and due to a chain of unfortunate coincidences, Joyceste was pushed into the summoning circle just as the other students were trying to abort the process. As a result, Orifax was unsummoned, but instead of being sent back to wherever he had come from, he was instead banished into Joyceste's body - a freak accident nobody knew how to deal with, and nobody ever mentioned to anyone again.

Ever since that night, Joyceste has lived with a demon of pure malice inside him. Intrusive thoughts, bad dreams, and a wizard's familiar that causes chaos and destruction wherever it goes are only some of the many effects of Orifax's dark presence within Joyceste. But the worst part of all: The seal that holds Orifax in check draws its strength from positive emotions. Whenever Joyceste is sad, lonely, or angry, the seal weakens and Orifax threatens to break out from his prison, which would not only set him free to cause pain and suffering on a massive scale, but might also seriously harm or even kill Joyceste in the process. There is only one way for Joyceste to prevent this from happening: Being happy. For him, radiating optimism and positivity is not a choice or a trait of character - it's a question of survival. If there ever comes a day when Joyceste has no joy left in him, that might well be the end of this lovable student of magic, and the beginning of something much darker, and much more dangerous.
