Rayne belongs to my good friend and long-time supporter, Halen, who has been playing him in a tabletop RP campaign for a long time. Over the years, I've had many opportunities to draw this character for commissions, so in terms of how often I've drawn a certain character that doesn't even belong to me, Rayne ranks among the top and therefore deserves his own profile on here.
Rayne (yes, Rayne, not Rain, or Reign) is one of the uncommon half-elves born of two half-elves, albeit with some draconic magic to help the process along that left some lingering effects… Sadly, they failed to heed the dragon's warning and while Rayne was born healthy, his brother was stillborn.
Years passed and he eventually followed his parents into a mercenary lifestyle. It was only when a client betrayed the mercenary company he’d joined that his brother made a return: Their souls still entwined, he was able to aid Rayne in battle. Seeking out those responsible for his near-death, Rayne became embroiled in a war against a queen that sought to spread an eternal winter over the world. In the following months, he traveled to unfamiliar lands and even away from the world he’d been born upon, only to return back and strike down his frozen foe.
Love and heartache followed him as he travelled, as he was betrayed by several of those he’d shown interest in on his journey, only for one to come to his aid towards the end of his trials. Others, like the ever kind Magnai, provided comfort when he felt at his lowest.
Armed with two blades, one forged by a repentant love, Dimitri, and the other conjured from his own flames, he fought like a dervish in battle, burning his foes with fire and acid alongside the crushing blows of his brother. They provided the shield to their allies and the vanguard in any confrontation, dodging death even as the world suffered around them.
In months and years following his first journey, Rayne came to confront the dragon that had aided in his creation, and refusing to join them in their plans, struck them down, forging their remains into a crown so that their soul would not be free to return to life. Renown granted him station in his homeland. His time later in life was spent between Dimitri, Magnai, and his step sons.
