The youngest member of the famous Caridad family of explorers and archaeologists, Theo Caridad was sent ot the city of Jahanspoint to learn the ropes of the explorer's trade from his parents' old friend Jarsyl, the duke of Jahanspoint and himself a retired adventurer.

His first big adventure was to be the voyage to find the mysterious lost continent, Xel. Theo and his adventuring party set out to find the fabled island and did eventually succeed, only to be drawn into an ominous conspiracy on Xel involving the ruling house and a strange man by the name of Marcel.

A wizard of the transmutation school himself, Theo doesn't think highly of the "mumbo jumbo" arts of divination. He prefers to tell the future instead by looking deeply and lovingly into the eyes of his best friend, adventuring partner, and later husband, Lis.
