This piece always fills me with a bit of dread because I used heavy reference for the head and hands which I wish I hadn't - it makes it hard to feel like this is entirely my own work. Obviously there is nothing wrong with referencing, artists do it all the time. But there are different levels of it. When it comes to this picture, I didn't trace anything per se, but it's something rather close to it and that makes me slightly uncomfortable, which is a shame because this piece turned out so well that I'd love to have it in my portfolio, but now I can't really, since it's not entirely original.
A set of cards "matches the suit" of another set if there is at least one card in the first set belonging to the same suit as one card in the second set. Not all of the cards have to match each other’s suits – one is enough.
